At the time this lighthouse was built in 1866, this place was known as Southport.  It was the first light a boat from Chicago would see in Wisconsin and was originally equipped with a 4^th order Fresnel lens (which if you remember, is not really a lens, but a whole cluster of prisms that act like a single lens).
