Castellammare di Stabia, at the southeastern corner of the Golfo di Napoli, is only 6 km south of Pompeii and was one of the towns destroyed by the great eruption of Vesuvius in 79 BC. The lighthouse is located on the Via Panoramica overlooking the town and harbor. ARLHS # ITA-182 (E 1692)
