A Lighthouse of FranceWS

FR 234 Pointe de la Croix (Pointe de Surville)

This light was initially established within the walls of the historic Fort de Surville, one of the fortifications guarding the approach to Lorient. Two taller lighthouses, built in 1830 and 1845, had to be removed because they came into the line of fire of the fort's artillery. Finally the light was removed from the fort to eliminate this problem. Located at the eastern point of the island. (Not to be confused with two other lights such as FR 104A ARLHS # FRA-253 (D 0968)
